Captain Taniwha and the Sticky Space Snot – Introduction by Greg
Hi there, I'm Greg Broadmore and I'm here at Weta Workshop in Wellington, New Zealand, where I work as an artist and writer creating monsters and creatures and characters; building worlds like the world of Dr. Grordbort; where I invent characters that travel across space to Venus and other planets, and fight all kinds of crazy monsters and aliens with strange ray guns and pieces of equipment.
So in the world of Dr. Grordbort, we make ray guns and rocketships, and all kinds of inventions like that. And for me, what that involves is writing all these characters and things out, and building these worlds with words and with pictures. And writing out the stories, and deciding who goes where, and what they do, and who they meet, and what adventures they get up to.
And what I'm working on next is turning that into a video game. So I'm taking one of the main characters, Lord Cockswain, who's this larger than life British adventurer, and taking him on a crazy journey through our solar system, meeting all kinds of wild and wonderful characters and creatures.
When I was a little kid, I would create comics and stories with pictures, but I wouldn't really think that I was doing the writing. And then after years, I realised I was the one doing the writing and actually creating it.
And now that's almost my main focus, building those places and building those characters, not just with pictures.
