Introduction by Brian - transcript
Hi everybody, I'm Brian Faulkner, and I'm talking to you from my home on the sunny Gold Coast of Australia.
Now I am a Kiwi, but I do live on the Gold Coast of Australia, and it's writing that has got me here.
It's the books that I've written, and the stories that I've told, and the things that I've made up that have got me here on the Gold Coast.
And in fact I travel all around the world talking to kids about writing and about my books.
All because I like making things up, and making up stories.
You know, writing's not important just for authors; no matter what you do in life, you're going to end up writing, whether you're writing reports, or writing letters, or writing briefs, you're going to be writing something.
And the skills you learn at school when you learn to write, and if you enjoy writing, and if you get to be good at writing, they're going to help you no matter what career you get into.
When I was young, I read just about everything there was in the school library and in the public library.
My favourite authors when I was really young were people like Enid Blyton and Willard Price, and then I graduated to authors like Ian Fleming and Alistair MacLean.
But generally, I read just about everything. I really enjoyed reading.

"Everybody stood frozen in shock. Some gasped, others squealed. A teacher fainted.
William flipped up the secret panel on the arm of his wheelchair and yelled, 'Out of my way, I'm coming through!'"
